Thundercat goes on the prowl in video for 'Dragonball Durag'
Throughout musical history, there have been more than a few artists who became known for their ability to insert sardonic realness into their songs.
Not going so far as Weird Al Yankovic to be intentional parody-makers, but rather using their platform to denote relatable situations in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, everyone from Steely Dan to Beck has taken their respective swings. Now, Thundercat, one of the most recent entrants into these comedic ranks, is fulfilling his legacy with a swagger that only comes from a Gucci belt being paired with a “Dragonball Durag.”
In his new Zack Fox-directed video for the song that is named for the unmistakable head-wear, Thundercat saunters around his neighborhood (and Kenny Beats’ backyard) attempting to court paramours with laughable antics. Going so far as to hide in trashcans and crawl through the dirt while his guileless lyrics depict these actions to the letter, the video ends on a positive note with the last attempt going in his favor.
