Charlotte de Witte was given the high honor of closing out the main stage at Tomorrowland on Saturday night during the third weekend of the 2022 version of the festival. While trance has been given a prominent place on this years main stage, de Witte’s performance more importantly marks the first time in festival history that a female artist was slotted to close out the stage.
2022 has been an incredibly strong year for Charlotte de Witte as she continues to bring her brand of techno to stages around the world as well as expand the reach and offerings of her personal brand, KNTXT. Having already hosted a stage at EDC Las Vegas, as well as taking over the Atmosphere tent at Tomorrowland for weekend 1, on top of a mind bending 10 hour set earlier this year, de Witte is just continuing to add to her impressive accolades and musical accomplishments.
Her ascendancy to the top has come through in every facet of her career as she continues to pay homage to the history of techno while constantly pushing its boundaries and aesthetics further with her productions, fashion and curated events. With her newest feat, her name will forever be mentioned in the annals of electronic music history as future additions of the festival will celebrate the long overdue glass ceiling being torn down with this performance.
As for the music, Charlotte de Witte came prepared to give the fans a closing set worthy of of the stage she was on. The first half of her set was dedicated to remixes and tracks from other artists, celebrating the genre and culture of which she is so proud of representing and continuing to help grow. Tracks from Jerome Ism-Ae, T78 and Hanubis sounded massive, capturing the crowds attention immediately while assuring fans around the world that this wouldn’t be a typical festival closer. Approaching the end of her set, de Witte ran through a collection of ID’s, putting the entire industry on notice that even though she is making history on this evening, she is still looking forward to the future and her next goals and vision.
