Alesso turns to Liam Payne for lighthearted crossover, 'Midnight'
Over an entire decade’s worth of releases, Alesso‘s record cites a sweeping lineup of A1 lyricists including the likes of Ryan Tedder, Tove Lo, and Hailee Steinfeld. Following last month’s progressive cooperative alongside DubVision, the Swede has now taken aim at possibly the most sizable collaboration of his tenure. No newcomer to the division of dance music, having previously held ranks with Zedd, Jonas Blue and Cheat Codes, former One Direction affiliate Liam Payne has officially joined Alesso for “Midnight.”
With an undeniable gesture towards foreign future bass territory for Alesso, “Midnight” could still effortlessly have its founder identified as he sleekly employs Payne’s rousing message on top of a crisply made instrumental. In a performance visual that was filmed while both artists remain in isolation due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Alesso showcases himself within his Los Angeles studio, while Liam Payne is found serenading “Midnight” in the midst of a London sunset. Enabling fans to combat boredom during the quarantine, the pairing is also crowdsourcing vocals in a challenge to be featured on the single’s official remix.
