AMÉMÉ’s New Afro-House Track Samples His Own Mother: Listen to “Kaleta”
Out now by way of AMÉMÉ’s own One Tribe Records, "Kaleta" is a deeply personal ode to his heritage.
Blossoming West African dance music star AMÉMÉ channels his cultural roots in his newest single, an Afro-house stunner called "Kaleta."
According to a press release, the track is named after a holiday tradition in AMÉMÉ’s hometown of Benin in which children dress up in masks and costumes while gathering in the streets. "Kaleta" also features vocal samples from AMÉMÉ’s mother, which were recorded eight years ago in his New York City living room.
Five years later, when he moved to Berlin, he revisited the recording and decided to rework it. Out now by way of AMÉMÉ’s own One Tribe Records, "Kaleta" sizzles with tribal percussion, dynamic bass and spiritual chants, ultimately offering a deeply personal ode to his heritage.
"Kaleta" is a "celebration with song and dance, embodying happiness, joy, family and community," said AMÉMÉ, who was recently named to the EDM.com Class of 2023. "It’s the perfect interpretation of what jungle tech is, with its rhythm and drum orientation, high energy and a touch of synthesizers.”
