Chloe x Halle recruit Disclosure for 'Ungodly Hour,' release sophomore 13-track LP
Chloe x Halle‘s sophomore album, Ungodly Hour, has arrived. After postponing the project’s release date in honor of the nation and global-wide movement for Black Lives Matter and social justice for those killed by police brutality, the R&B duo have delivered a dynamic 13-track display of renewed artistry Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. Exploring themes of navigating messy situations in love, friendship, and life, Ungodly Hour embraces the sister’s discovery of sensuality as young women in their gossamer, soul-driven style.
Eponymous track “Ungodly Hour” features writing credits from Disclosure, who lent a hand on building the song. Encompassing ethereal elements of soft palettes and delicate layering, the titular track presents a showcase of the sisters’ ’90s and ’00s inspiration.
“I forgot what I was watching, but I heard the phrase ‘ungodly hour’ and wrote it in my notes. [It] kind of stuck out to all of us, and we were like, ‘What can you say with this?’ We all came up with this sentence: ‘Love me at the ungodly hour,’ which means love me when I’m at my worst; love me when I’m not all dolled up and made up. Love me when all my insecurities are out on the table,” states Chloe.
