Headhunterz and Vertile Drop Defqon.1 2023 Closing Theme, “Lost Without You”

Headhunterz and Vertile have joined forces for "Lost Without You," the closing theme of Defqon.1 2023.

The new song, which features Sian Evans, is a follow-up to the duo's previous track, "Before I Wake," which skyrocketed to the number one position in the Hardstyle Top 100 in 2022. "Lost Without You" explores the complementary elements of their previous collaboration.

Vertile said that "Lost Without You" can be turned into a love song, but there is more substance to it than that. The various elements throughout the song quickly balance out themselves.

"While writing this track, we perfectly complemented each other," Vertile said in a press release shared with EDM.com. "It quickly translates into a love song, but it actually has many more layers. It's about the differences that balance each other, like the masculine and feminine energy, and chaos versus order. It can be seen as a metaphor for the euphoric and raw sub-genres within the hardstyle scene."

"The idea of it is already just magical, I think," added Headhunterz. "They're both great, amazing singers who've done an amazing job, and I'm also really proud of the lyrics that we wrote."

A few months ago, we spoke with Headhunterz and D-Block & S-te-Fan about their 15-year celebration of hardstyle music. Their song "Keepers of Our Legacy" was started at the beginning of the pandemic and transcended into a "natural feeling" after spending time with each other.

"We had each been pursuing our careers side by side for so many years, and then during the COVID-19 pandemic, we reached out to Willem to remix our series 'Enter Your Mind,'" D-Block & S-te-Fan told EDM.com at the time. "He showed great enthusiasm, delivering a fantastic remix of ‘Twilight Zone,’ and most importantly, we had a great vibe hanging out that day and discovered how much we think alike. It felt natural to agree on a collaboration."
