For just his third release of 2022, Kygo has teamed up with none other than Dean Lewis to create one of the anthems of the year, ‘Never Really Loved Me’.
The classic Kygo sound rings true on this one; the pristine melody, Lewis’ magical vocals and the deep, meaningful lyrics are the culmination of a masterpiece. This ‘heartbreak anthem’ will undoubtedly dominate radio waves for the rest of the year, and is a mighty fine addition to both Kygo and Lewis’ phenomenal discographies.
Since its release on Friday, July 1, ‘Never Really Loved Me’ is fast approaching 2 million streams on Spotify, which is an impressive feat in itself. The track follows Kygo’s two releases ‘Dancing Feet’ together with DNCE and ‘Freeze’; the former being a groovy pop belter, and the latter is arguably one of his most emotional tracks to date.
‘Never Really Loved Me’ also got its first live play over the weekend at Kygo’s sold-out, hometown show at Norway’s Ullevaal Stadium, where Dean Lewis travelled from the United States directly to the show to perform their collaboration together. You can take a look at the photos from the show by clicking here.
Dean Lewis has also been somewhat quiet on the release front this year, having only released one other single, ‘Hurtless’. Whilst you may remember him from his collaboration with Martin Garrix ‘Used To Love’, it appears that another Kygo collaboration is imminent, with the pop sensation teasing the track on social media; you can take a look here.
Kygo is booked to perform some monumental shows during the back end of 2022, with festival appearances at Lollapalooza, Untold, Hullabaloo and Life Is Beautiful. Not to mention that he’ll be playing at his very own Palm Tree Music Festival in Croatia next month, as well as stopping by for his first New York show since 2018 at Madison Square Garden in October.
