PAWSA samples J. Cole on groovy tech house tune, 'SHUBZ'

PAWSA always knows how to flip a sample. The producer’s ability to work any type of sample into a speaker-rattling house heater is not only unparalleled, but also a central reason why PAWSA is at the forefront of the minimal tech house movement. In 2020 alone, PAWSA has flipped just about everything, from a swinging jazz sample on “PHTHALO BLUES” to the fashionista anthem, “Boujie.” Now, “SHUBZ,” PAWSA’s fourth single of the year, features some of his most unique sampling work to date.

On “SHUBZ,” PAWSA takes on Young Thug‘s smash hit, “The London,” featuring J. Cole and Travis Scott. PAWSA reworks Cole’s performance in the track’s chorus into a trippy flip that only faintly resembles the original. The echo-fueled vocals bounce effortlessly over a strong bass line, resulting in a club-ready track that demonstrates PAWSA’s dynamism when it comes to reworking samples in an electronic context.
