Swedish House Mafia mark their return to the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix with their show recorded live from Ushuaïa Ibiza earlier in July. “We’ve done the Essential Mix our whole careers and it’s wonderful to be back on the air with the people we love!“
Swedish House Mafia, whether together or apart, have been doing the Essential Mix on Radio 1 their whole careers, at this point being veterans to the series. Back in 2010, they went on the air with their set live from Creamfields, and again back in 2008. Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello have also had their own solo spotlight moments on the Essential Mix decks too, but its Swedish House Mafia back as a trio that fans have been waiting for.
Recording their special one night only show back on July 17 at Ushuaïa especially for the airwaves, fans can now either relive this set or listen to it in full for the first time. A pivotal moment in any DJ’s career no matter how big they are, it’s still a massive moment for the trio as they explain:
“This means the world to us! And let us tell you why, Radio1 and the essential mix has shaped the face of dance music, since day one we’ve tuned in to the radio and listened to Dj’s and Electronic acts perform and later on in life we sat there tuned in every weekend to hear our own music being played, which inspired us and motivated us to pursue our dreams. We’ve done the Essential Mix our whole careers and it’s wonderful to be back on the air with the people we love! Big up to the whole team for letting us record this in Ibiza and invite you to our world!”
Filled with anthems old and new, you’ll find gems such as ‘Greyhound‘, ‘Miami 2 Ibiza‘ and ‘Kidsos‘, and new releases from the ‘Paradise Again‘ album such as ‘Can U Feel It‘, ‘Redlight‘, ‘Time‘ and ‘Calling On‘ to name a few, even sprinkling in their huge new single with Fred again.. and Future, ‘Turn On The Lights again..‘. Ending with the mega mashup ‘Don’t You Worry Child‘ vs ‘For You‘ vs ‘Save The World‘, this Essential Mix has it all.
It premiered on air last night, but luckily you can catch it thanks to a YouTube upload down below. Don’t forget to check out the tracklist here whilst you listen along.
