Jamie xx spins first Essential Mix in nine years [Stream]
While Jamie xx‘s following is presumably still digesting “Idontknow,” the producer is transcending his elusive status to once more expand his listeners’ queues. After releasing his first solo single in five years, Jamie xx has now closed yet another gap: the nine year gulf that separated his last BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix.
The Essential Mix has always been an important one for me, [I’ve] been listening to it since before I was allowed to go to clubs. I spent the last two weeks trying to finish music so that it could be in here. Had a lot of fun! I hope you enjoy and can dance around your houses to it, and with friends online.

Choice cuts from the likes of Peter Gabriel and Koreless court unreleased Jamie xx material in the producer’s first appearance on Pete Tong‘s airwaves since 2011, casting the Essential Mix as a sort of sonic treasure hunt for those familiar with the producer’s catalog. Look no further, Jamie xx says with with the showing, seemingly affirming streamers’ suspicions that his recent break with quietude foreshadows the release of his sophomore LP. The album rumored to be in the works would succeed 2015’s In Colour.
