It’s a moment the world has eagerly waited for time and time again, the return of Tiësto to trance music. Each moment the Dutch legend steps onto the mainstage, the possibility of him indulging back into his roots is rumored but never seems to happen. That is until now. As Tiësto took the mainstage of Tomorrowland 2022 Weekend two during Saturday night, he finally took fans down a proper trip through memory lane.
It’s no question that the backbone of Tiësto’s illustrious music career is the tracks he created during the early stages of his career at the start of the century. Many continue to live on to this day and are regarded as historical timestamps within dance music. However, ever since the multi-platinum artist altered the trajectory of his sound over the past decade, he left an insanely high demand from fans far and wide, urging him to give the world one more taste of Tiësto, the trance master. For people watching the Tomorrowland 2022 livestream or at the festival in person, they finally got their wish.
During the last twenty minutes of his performance, Tiësto surprised everyone by deciding to finally go back in time by playing some of the most renowned classics. He started the section by playing his own edit of Yves Deruyter’s “Feel Free.” Then he moved to play another personal edit of Push’s all-time trance classic, “Universal Nation.” Following that was the 2022 remix of his breakthrough remix hit of Delerium’s “Silence,” and then the Thomas Schumacher remix of “Follow Me” by Jim & Spoon. And to finish off the return to trance, Tiësto played his two solo classics, “Love Comes Again” and “Adagio For Strings.”
Tomorrowland is known for historical moments, and this ranks right up there with the best of them. Who knows when we will see another return to trance from Tiësto or if it will ever even happen again. But we will always have Saturday night.
