Dancing Astronaut celebrates black vocalists who have lent their talents to the electronic genre

In and out of the studio, Black Lives Matter. Dancing Astronaut stands in solidarity with all who are fighting racial injustice, and in our pledge to continue supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, it is our pleasure to highlight just some of the black vocalists who have lent their talents to dance records.

It would be impossible to encapsulate all of the vocal contributions from black artists in the dance space in one playlist, and their efforts extend far beyond this 100 song collection. However, with this playlist, we pay homage to the inimitable black creators who have breathed life into electronic releases, new and old. Without the contributions of these vocalists, we would not have some of our favorite songs. Dancing Astronaut Celebrates: Black Vocalists includes features from hip-hop entities such as Ne-Yo and Jeremih, as well as artists from other genres, including Toro y Moi, Frank Ocean, Kehlani, and many more.

Make no mistake—dance music is born from black culture. Without black creators, innovators, selectors, and communities, the electronic dance music we hold so dear would simply not exist. In short, dance music is deeply indebted to the global black community and we need to be doing more. Black artists and artists of color have played a profound role in shaping the sound and culture of dance music and now more than ever, it is necessary for everyone in the music community to stand up for the people that have given us so much.
