Dirt Monkey Swings Through a Canopy of Bass in Unpredictable New Album: Listen

Dubstep star Dirt Monkey goes ape in his new album, MYCELIUM SOUND PT. 1.

The album is not a petting zoo—it's an anything-goes jungle with a ruthless food chain, where Dirt Monkey's style takes on a life of its own. His sound is as delightfully unpredictable as our primate friends, swinging through the grapevines of drum & bass, house, and even dancehall and Jersey club.

One of the album's undeniable highlights is "BUTTER KNIFE," wherein Dirt Monkey samples the distinctive strums of Chaka Demus & Pliers' 1993 song "Bam Bam" and flips it into a filthy reggaestep track. With help from the ageless Ragga Twins duo, he infuses the same energy in "CUT TO THE CHASE," a ferocious hybrid of jungle and drum & bass.

Elsewhere, fans will feel right at home in the confines of the wonky cut "RESET BUTTON," a signature Dirt Monkey dubstep banger. He then funnels his wobbly sound through a kaleidoscope in "TELLIN ME," where warm saws hack through a thicket of fluttering arpeggios.

Up next for Dirt Monkey is a "deep dubstep counterpart" to his new album, according to a press release. MYCELIUM SOUND PT. 2 is scheduled to drop just a week later on October 25th, 2023.
