Investigation Launched Into Disappearance of Seattle DJ Subset
Subset, a Seattle-based DJ and electronic music producer, has been reported missing.
Subset, whose real name is Mark Martinez, has been missing since November 22nd, according to a missing person poster shared in a Facebook group created to provide updates on his disappearance. The DJ was scheduled to appear at Seattle's Q Nightclub that night but did not show up to the performance.
Due to the proliferation of false claims that Martinez had been located, his sister Diane has urged caution in her pleas to aid in the search.
"You can reach out to me or if you have any sightings/tips/info reach out to the Seattle police," Diane wrote in the Facebook group. "Thank you so much. I will post the most accurate info here that I can. I need to find my brother. I will literally do anything."
Martinez, 35, has performed at Burning Man, Camp Bisco and Dirtybird CampINN, among other major events, and worked in the role of Media Manager for Excision's popular Lost Lands Festival. He's also a prolific streamer, at one point DJing for a staggering 69 hours live on Twitch during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to his career as a DJ, he is a beloved event organizer, developing bespoke experiences through his own entity, The Instigators. Martinez in 2016 launched a party series, Noise Complaint, to curate electronic music shows before ultimately hosting a landmark hometown event at the iconic Space Needle observation tower featuring Diplo, Dom Dolla and more.
"honestly right now i'm feeling an energy, a creative drive, an overflowing abundance of positivity and excitement for life that i haven't felt in more years than i can remember," Martinez wrote in an Instagram post back in August. "i was lost there for a while. i'm back."
Martinez's last known location is Tacoma, Washington. The Seattle Police Department is currently investigating his disappearance.
