Julianna Barwick speaks to the soul with new LP, 'Healing is a Miracle'
Julianna Barwick joins the illustrious Ninja Tune family with her latest LP, Healing is a Miracle, an expansive and enduring soliloquy of sound from the bracing New York native.
Par for the course with Barwick’s work, Healing is a Miracle is lush with ambiance and imagery. Like a steady flow of waves crashing under the moonlight, the 8-track LP is at once comforting and chilling, ultimately taking inspiration from the regenerative healing properties of the human body.
Healing is a Miracle welcomes the talents of a sonic array of Barwick’s closest collaborators over the years, including Nosaj Thing, Jónsi of Sigur Rós, and harpist Mary Lattimore, However, while each of the aforementioned make their mark on the album their respective features, the LP as a whole is distinctly Julianna Barwick.
Speaking on the project, Barwick said,
“You cut your hand, it looks pretty bad, and two weeks later it looks like it never happened… That’s kind of amazing, you know?”
Barwick added,
“It had been so long since I had…[made] something for myself, just for the love of it… it was emotional, because I was recording music that was just from the heart, that wasn’t for an ‘assignment’ or project… it brought me to tears a little.”
