Spencer Brown Gifts Listeners Piece of Mind With Third Studio Album, “Equanimity”

Rarely does an album title encapsulate the inner workings of the mind, the emotional state of being and the overall listening experience like Spencer Brown's Equanimity

A continuous mix, the record is the third studio album from Brown, who was named one of EDM.com's best music producers of 2021 shortly after the release of his stellar sophomore effort, Stream of Consciousness.

The cohesion found in Equanimity allows the opus to develop a full narrative from start to finish. True to its name, the union of each passing track showers the body with serenity, peace and levelheadedness.

Even at its peaks, with cuts like "Good Times" and the Qrion-assisted "20ms," Brown allows his fans to elevate their spirits while delicately returning the ear back to a state of tranquility. Alongside "Curve," those two tracks are exemplary standouts that showcase Brown's mastery of the progressive genre.

The album, out now via Brown's own diviine imprint, finds the Anjunabeats favorite teaming up with a handful of choice players in the industry. Artists lending their talents to the project include Ilan Bluestone, Luttrell, Ezequiel Arias, Wilt Claybourne, Late Night Shri and P.O.S. (a solo alias of Above & Beyond's Paavo Siljamäki).

Of note is Brown's partnership with five-time Grammy Award-winning South African male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. With help from Wilt Claybourne, their collaborative efforts shine as we're introduced to the album with "Awu Wemadoda," a worldly ensemble cut with universal appeal.

At its core, Equanimity succeeds due to Brown's own resilience after a string of turbulent incidents.

"In extremely difficult periods, we may not find the silver linings until time has passed," he said. "Only then can we zoom out and reflect on what the universe was trying to convey."

Brown is quick to emphasize not only his personal growth but his journey into equanimity, a concept that was introduced to him by a friend.

"This album represents the beautiful state of tranquility I discovered after weathering the storm when the music was written," he continiued. "Tying it together as one piece closed this chapter of finding strength from inside, my path to Equanimity.”

Brown is currently supporting Equanimity with an eponymous tour. You can listen to the full album below.
