Spotify rolls out new subscription option aimed at couples
Spotify has added a new subscription option for listeners, Premium Duo. The latest addition allows two listeners living at the same home address to share a Premium account for a $12.99 monthly fee. This extension of Spotify’s portfolio of subscription packages follows the company’s testing of Spotify Premium Duo membership in select markets.
Spotify’s Chief Freemium Business Officer, Alex Norström, further delineated how the membership works in a recent statement:
“With two individual Premium accounts, you can both listen independently, uninterrupted, and get all of your personalized playlists and features tailored just for you. We are thrilled to bring this unique Spotify Premium plan to even more markets around the world.”
In addition to standard Premium features such as ad-free listening, the new membership will also include exclusive access to the Duo Mix, a playlist that will be regularly updated based on the preferences of the two members who share the account.
The news of Premium Duo’s official launch comes just a few days after market data showed that Spotify was valued at more than $50 billion, a new benchmark for the streaming giant. Premium Duo subscriptions are now available for $12.99 and can be purchased in 55 markets around the world, including the United States. Existing Premium subscribers can switch to Premium Duo by visiting their “Account” page on Spotify, where they will have the option to change their subscription. Those who upgrade to Premium Duo will keep the saved music, podcasts, playlists, and recommendations tied to their existing Premium account.
