Subtronics’ Latest Dubstep Banger Samples an Internet Rant: Listen to “Itchy Scratchy”

Caution: If you’re ever releasing humorous video content on the internet, you better be prepared for Subtronics to turn it into a dubstep track.

His new single “Itchy Scratchy” dropped today, and it’s exactly what fans have come to expect from the producer’s talent for melding internet culture and world-class bass design. Built around a viral clip from content creator Paige Ewald, the track is a distorted tribute to all things weird and wubby.

The sample comes from the below video, in which Ewald passionately outlines her ideal driving playlist: “I need wonky woo woo wubby music. I need scratchy itchy brain riddim… I want that shit that goes ‘womp womp.’ Gimme that eer eer eer. I want the wubs to sound wet.” Subtronics uses this chaotic wishlist as a blueprint to deliver another banger in his ever-growing discography.

“Itchy Scratchy” is a blitz of growling bass, glitched-out fills and raw textures. Every element Ewald manifests makes an appearance, crafted with Subtronics’ signature detail and flair. The drop scratches and spirals in a way that perfectly captures the track’s absurdist origins.

This is far from Subtronics’ first time sampling viral internet content for a song. Past tracks like “Sploinky Dub,” “Blastin,” and “Wicked Witch” follow the same formula, but “Itchy Scratchy” proves he’s only getting more creative. As long as the internet keeps doing what it does best and churning out chaos, he will be there to repurpose it into filthy bass.
