Watch a Levitating Grimes Perform With Anyma’s Afterlife Visuals at Tomorrowland

Anyma and Grimes took the People of Tomorrow to the opera.

The two joined forces over the weekend at Tomorrowland, where a display of technocratic theatrics led to one of the weekend's biggest moments.

The advent of artificial intelligence—and its invasion of the music industry—has left more questions than answers about how humans and machines can live in harmony on a macro level. But Grimes, who has operated as one of AI's most fervent advocates, is already coexisting.

The famed art-pop artist joined Anyma onstage at Tomorrowland to perform "Welcome to the Opera," their recent Afterlife collaboration, a spellbinding song with a sentient twist. Afterlife's metaphysical aesthetic came to life on the festival's Freedom Stage, where Grimes was affixed to a harness before levitating in tandem with the brand's signature visuals.

"My life is in the hands of the machine now," she tweeted after the performance.

Anyma is one half of Tale of Us, the Italian dance music duo behind Afterlife. The beloved record label and event organizer has become the touchstone for melodic techno music thanks to its haunting, cerebral approach to the genre, effectively reinventing it for today's generation.

Anyma is now poised to release his long-awaited debut album after Afterlife signed a landmark record deal with Interscope, who will distribute the imprint's future recordings and administer its existing catalog. "Welcome to the Opera" is the lead single of the album, which is expected to release in late 2023.

Tomorrowland continues this weekend from July 28-30. You can find out how to livestream the festival here.
