Zeds Dead and Subtronics unleash gritty hip-hop bass crossover remix of Atmosphere's 'God Loves Ugly'
On the eve of the 18th anniversary of the original’s release, Zeds Dead and Subtronics unleash a menacing remix of Atmosphere’s old-school hip-hop highlight, “GodLovesUgly.” As lifelong fans of the Minneapolis hip-hop outfit, DC, Hooks, and Subtronics maintained the original’s piano melody and percussion arrangement while dropping the track on a beefy bass line and in-your-face drums—the type that evoke that involuntarily bass face of approval. The low end modifications along with Atmosphere’s bouncing cadence summate in a grooving head bobber from front to back.
Utilizing Zeds Dead’s affinity for hip-hop beats, the collaboration between the Canadian bass slayers and Subtronics was sure to bring out one of the dirtiest sounds of 2020, a track of which the latter had been showing off in recent live streams.
The “GodLovesUgly” Remix has been paired with the original on a limited-edition seven-inch record pressed on red vinyl along with a t-shirt. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Unicorn Riot, a decentralized, educational 501(c)(3) non-profit media organization of artists and journalists dedicated to exposing root causes of dynamic social and environmental issues through amplifying stories and exploring sustainable alternatives in today’s globalized world.
