Kendrick Lamar‘s music video for “We Cry Together” has qualified for an Oscar nomination in the category Best Live Action Short Film.
According to the reports by the Hollywood Reporter, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Jeremy Lin and Naomi Osaka’s shorts have qualified for Oscar consideration. The six-minute film features stars K-Dot and A24-produced film Zola‘s Taylour Paige as a couple. It has been played in West Los Angeles’ Laemmle Royal Theater from June 3 to June 9, which allowed it to receive an Oscar nomination. The 180-seat theatre saw this short once a day, with an audience mostly consisting of family and friends, but around 20 members of the general public were allowed to see the short as well in each screening, with security collecting everyone’s phones to prevent footage of the video.
“We Cry Together” is a song from Lamar’s latest album called “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers“, which is his first album since 2017’s “DAMN“.
This nomination consideration that Kendrick Lamar has qualified for, alongside the nominations Taylor Swift, Jeremy Lin and Naomi Osaka received show that even in the age of streaming platforms, a music video can still catch an eye.
