Patrick Topping Announces “Sober October” Rave
The electronic music scene is always evolving, and thanks to unabashedly vulnerable artists like Patrick Topping, sober raves are becoming more and more common.
The renowned DJ and house music producer recently took to X to announce a new curated rave, "Sober October," and open up about the effects on his life of touring sober. Topping refrained from announcing a date but said the event will take place at the end of the month.
"I started playing sober in 2017 and it changed my relationship with music and partying and improved my mental and physical health so much," he wrote.
Acknowledging that nearly all venues sell alcohol, Topping continued: "I love underground dance music so much, and the community has so many positive aspects I’m not trying to take away from, this is my life and passion but also there can be a dark side to it, which I’ve been a part of myself."
Topping then encouraged fans to communicate with him via X to select the location of his "Sober October" rave, which opened the floodgates for an abundance of support.
"From my own experiences, I find this shifts the focus so much more back on to the music too," he added. "I know a small amount of people who go to events sober and they love it. I want to create an experience where as many people as possible can experience this buzz."
Topping's announcement arrives amidst the blossoming "sober curious" movement, in which adopters strive to monitor their drinking habits to the benefit of all facets of their health.
