Joanna Magik Joins Forces With Smalltown DJs for Tech House Heater, “Energy”
Whether you believe in the physics of human energy fields or not, surely we can all agree that being in the company of those we align with can induce a palpable feeling within us. A spark, if you will.
Out today by way of Claude VonStroke's venerated Dirtybird imprint, the tech house heater features Techno Tupac and speaks to the feeling of physically connecting with someone to whom you're deeply attracted: "Everytime you touch me I feel energy."
With an entrancing vocal refrain, reverberating synths and a pronounced four-on-the-floor beat, "Energy" exudes a hypnotic club panache. As an amalgamation of Magik's signature house sensibilities and Smalltown DJs' production prowess—accrued from decades of experience in the electronic music scene—"Energy" is an ode to techno's roots with a vivacious house infusion.
"We are stoked to collaborate on ‘Energy’ because it’s a juicy hybrid of our sounds and there’s no better word to describe the vibrancy of our respective DJ sets," Smalltown DJs said in a statement shared with EDM.com. "It’s a dream to have it released on Dirtybird."

Over the years, Smalltown DJs have garnered acclaim from many of their releases, such as "Do You Want Me" (with rrotik), "Bad Behaviour" (with Dances With White Girls and SkiiTour)" and "Who U With" (with rrotik and Killa Kela). Those records dropped on Box of Cats, Fool's Gold and House Call Records, respectively.
Meanwhile, Magik has been making waves as of late, releasing her debut EP Got Something / Dancefloor just weeks ago. She has also been a consistent name across Canada's festival circuit and nightclubs, including Badlands and Shambhala.
