The Prodigy have announced that they will be releasing a special anniversary edition of the their landmark album, The Fat Of The Land. The new release marks the 25th anniversary of the iconic album which continues to have an impact on rock and electronic music to this day.
Lead by massive singles, “Firestarter,” “Smack My Bitch Up,” and “Breathe,” The Fat Of The Land, was released in July of 1997 and quickly made it’s way to the top of the Billboard charts by the end of the month before going on to be certified double platinum on December 2nd of the same year. During the era of nu-metal and boy bands, The Prodigy found a niche with their hard hitting bass style and combination of big beat, trip hop and as well as industrial and rock styles. While electronic music has become massively successful now across the globe, it’s influence in the United States in the 1990’s was far more limited which only makes the success of The Fat Of The Land all the more impressive at the time. When vocalist Keith Flint took his own life in 2019, fans utilized the hashtag Firestarter4Number1 to help return to the song to the charts where it eventually reached the 13 spot on Dance/Electronic singles on Billboard.
The reissue of the album features re-imagined art work as well as a remix of “Firestarter” by Andy C. Preorders for the album have already been announced, and while it is sold out on the bands official website, it can still be found at several independent record shops. If you are looking to get your hands on one, act fast to secure a copy before it’s November 4th release. In the meantime, stream the album, enjoy the music and maybe even re-watch the iconic “Smack My Bitch” up video which earned an eventual removal from MTV’s video rotation for it’s depictions of drug use, alcohol and sex and click here to find a store and get a copy for yourself.
