In the city of Nashville, where hot chicken joints and honky-tonks outnumber traffic lights, an electronic music festival is shaking up the nightlife scene with a sustainability twist.

The eco-conscious Deep Tropics Music, Art and Style Festival is turning up the bass and turning down the waste. With a mission to be the greenest festival in the United States, it's the gold standard for responsible raving.

At Deep Tropics, sustainability isn't just a fad—it's the headliner of the show. The organizers of the festival, which returns August 18-19, have produced a carbon-negative event for three years in a row. 79% of the festival's waste was prevented from entering the local landfill in 2021 before that figure mushroomed to a 93% clip last year, according to a press release.

Twisting the knife into their efforts to offset the event's carbon footprint, Deep Tropics also has a "zero-waste program" which ensures its onsite materials are either recyclable, compostable or reusable.

In addition to a typically stellar lineup, fans can once again expect a robust program of pre-parties, daytime events and workshops at the intersection of planet and partying. To boot, afterparties catering to fans of various electronic subgenres will take the experience deep into the night.

The 2023 Deep Tropics lineup is its biggest yet, featuring Gorgon City, SG Lewis, TroyBoi, Hayden James, Lunice, LP Giobbi, What So Not and more. They'll perform across three immersive stages: the ancient temple-inspired "Meru" stage, the bass music-focused "Lotus" stage and a performance space known as "Congo Soundsystem."

Deep Tropics has now joined forces with Virgin Hotels Nashville for a groundbreaking partnership to activate the festival beyond its eco-conscious home of Bicentennial Park. With a commitment to being net zero by 2030, the lavish hotel is poised to organize an array of special pop-up events and surprise programming.
