Yellow Claw Admit They Don’t Understand the Lyrics to Their Japanese Crossover Track, “Hey Sensei”

"We don't know what they mean, but they sound so good," the duo said of Shachi's lyrics.

The meaning behind the lyrics of Yellow Claw's latest single may be as much a surprise to them as they are to you.

In what can only be described as a "blind release" of sorts, the Dutch duo have put their full faith and support in the words of Japanese rapper Shachi—all without even a surface-level understanding the lyrics. Together the artists have dropped "Hey Sensei" by way of Claw's Barong Family imprint.

Recapping their process, Yellow Claw stated that "Hey Sensei" came together seamlessly after they connected with Shachi in Japan.

"We met up with Shachi when we did a show in Tokyo. Airdropped her the beat, and she sent us the vocals a couple of days later," the duo said in a joint statement. "All the Japanese lyrics are really like a painting with words to us. We don't know what they mean, but they sound so good."

Of course we're also none the wiser, though the combination of Shachi's delivery and the track's driving rhythms make for a memorable combination. Underpinned by metallic percussive hits, the tangibly industrial tinge to the production delivers some bite that's likely to resonate with longtime fans of the powerhouse trap duo.
